H.I.T.S. Class was awesome as usual with Sensei Bloom. If you have ever taken that class before then you know exactly what I mean. Sensei Bloom is an incredible instructor and he pushes us hard to make us stronger and better martial artists. Last night's class was slightly different though. My daughter Sierra has heard how hard and yet fun H.I.T.S. class is and wanted to see what it was like. Sierra is 10 years old and currently a Yellow Belt with one orange stripe. She loves dance music and martial arts, so H.I.T.S. was something she was interested in. I told her she could come watch me do it last night so that she could sit and listen to the loud dance music playing while we were working out. She was very excited and came with me that night. What she (and I) didn't expect was that Sensei Bloom asked Sierra if she would like to take the H.I.T.S. class with us. For those of you who don't know H.I.T.S. stands for High Intensity Training Session. It is a 30 - 40min very hard very fast paced martial art workout with loud techno/dance music playing in the background. (Very hard, but yet very fun with lots of variety) He said she could just try it out and do her best, which is all he expects from any of us. She was excited and said she would take the class. This is a prime example of why Martial Way is much more than just another kempo school or a place to get a good workout. It feels more like an extended family. No matter your age, sex, rank, etc. you are always felt welcome there. I was pretty impressed that Sensei Bloom invited her to the class with all the other adults, and even more impressed that Sierra stuck it out and did the entire class and didn't quit even though it was hard. Sierra told me on the way home from class that she can't wait until she is 14 yrs old so she can come to H.I.T.S. class with me every Thursday. Both of my kids (Sierra and William) enjoy going to Martial Way as well do I and we look forward to many years at Martial Way. If you aren't currrently a student of Martial Way, you should be, you don't know what you are missing!
